San Cristobal Tower a Luxury Collection Hotel
RINGED BY THE SNOW-TOPPED ANDES AND THE CHILEAN COASTAL RANGE, SPANISH COLONIAL SANTIAGO IS ONE DRAMATIC CAPITAL CITY.
From a valley surrounded by stunning mountains, a proud capital city emerges, startlingly modern but steadfast in its preservation of a culture created by a vivid past. Nearly twenty years of economic growth have transformed Santiago into one of Latin America's most vibrant metropolitan destinations. The spirit of a Spanish colonial past—baroque churches and neoclassical palaces— mingle with future-gazing glistening skyscrapers and gracious avenues.

There are nice things I can say about the San Cristobal Tower.
But first lets define luxury.
NOT charging a loyalty awards customer $50 to check in early. (Especially when you have a lot of empty rooms.)
NOT giving a loyalty awards customer a room facing a construction site, when Andes view rooms were clearly available. ( I checked the front windows after dark.)
NOT using partially fitted bottom sheets. (the kind that inevitably work their way up during the night and you wake up with the bottom sheet up past your a..)
NOT having two of of the three light bulbs in the vanity area burnt out. (I switched them out with bulbs from the bedroom.)
NOT having one of said light fixtures held together with masking tape. (See photo on TA)
NOT charging $30 for a breakfast buffet then setting the table with frayed napkins and placemats.
NOT having an Internet package that is incremental. ( If you buy three hours, you get three continuous hours from the moment you click go.)
NOT saying "no" when you call the front desk, explain that the Internet purchase plan was unclear and you'd like to upgrade to the 24 hour plan.
NOT having only one English language tv channel that didn't work.. (One would have been fine if it wasn't constantly pixelated or soundless)
NOT appearing to have changed the decor since the hotel was built. (70's beige on beige and gold leaf are no longer in style.) Ok, this one is more about personal preferences.
NOT being told my management in the comments that "you should have asked" or "we didn't know." Because luxury is NOT having to ask.
The room was clean and user friendly. The building and grounds were clean and well maintained as well. The hotel is connected to a sister brand and is in an excellent location. The Gran Torre Santiago tower and attached mega-mall is easily walkable.I did enjoy the breakfast buffet. They had an excellent selection of things to choose from. It all appeared fresh, the hot was hot and the cold was cold. The service was attentive, friendly and gracious enough to speak english. All that being said, the hotel is basically very good, not great, not excellent. One gets the impression that occupancy is low and they are trying to nickel and dime to death the few guests they do have to increase revenue. It's a business plan that rarely succeeds. If given the choice, choose the attached hotel
